When someone in your family is diagnosed with cancer, the impact is felt by everyone. The journey is long, but you walk it together.
This September, we invite you to join the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation for WALK TOGETHER, a 20 kilometre walk across Ottawa in support of local families facing cancer. The funds you raise will stay here in our community to bring new diagnostic technology to the Queensway Carleton Hospital, and help local families navigate cancer through Cancer Coaching. Invite your friends and loved ones to walk with you - together, each step you take will change someone's life.
At 20 kilometres, WALK TOGETHER is a challenge. It represents the difficult road families in our community must walk when facing a cancer diagnosis, and allows us to walk alongside them in their journey, overcoming our own challenges as they do the same. Some choose to walk in honour of a loved one they have lost, while others walk to show their support for someone they love who is facing cancer today.
The funds raised through WALK TOGETHER will stay right here in our community to support local families facing cancer through Cancer Coaching, and to bring a new stock of colonoscopes to the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer affecting both men and women in Ottawa, and this technology helps to detect colorectal cancers earlier to drastically improve patient outcomes.
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
COME TOGETHER. Invite your family, friends and colleagues to be part of your WALK TOGETHER team. It’s in the title - this walk is much better when we do it together! Design your own fundraising plan, or reach out to the Cancer Foundation for tips on how to get your online fundraising drive started. All are welcome, with a fundraising goal to suit their needs: kids are asked to raise a minimum of $250, students a minimum of $500, and adults a minimum of $750. When your team comes together, you can make it happen!
TAKE YOUR FIRST STEPS TOWARDS CHANGING LIVES. Get ready to walk 20 kilometers to change someone’s life! Be sure to train for the walk by planning weekly strolls in your neighbourhood and breaking in your shoes well in advance. This will help you build up your endurance for the big day, and give you great photos to share on social media to help you work towards your fundraising goal. Invite your family and friends to join you in training and in your final walk for a day you won’t forget!
GIVE HOPE. When your team crosses the finish line, you will be celebrating everything you’ve accomplished for the families facing cancer in our community, together. Your walk will inspire others to get involved in future walks, and maybe even to join your team next year! The more people you bring onto your team the more funds you will be able to raise, and the more support you will have as you walk across Ottawa in support of local cancer care!
